Over the last 4 years, I have started getting back to the lakes again. I follow quite a few people on my personal FB page that are always posting about what bait they are using, where the best fishing is, and showing pictures of massive catches. Some of the terminology flies over my head (yes I am a natural blond).
So let's dive into a few terms you will probably see and hear through this journey.
Let's start by discussing why I chose the name for this page/blog. Hookers and Bobbers
An hooker is a type of fishing boat that uses lines and hooks instead of nets. Bobbers are small floats attached to the fishing line to keep the bait at a specific depth.
When I first named this page, I couldn't help but chuckle at the inevitable recommendations for brothels and other ventures. I mean, I saw that coming from a mile away. But you have to admit, it's a clever play on words, don't you think? Or is it just me laughing?
Anglers are people who fish. Simple enough right?
Artificial is kinda self explanatory I think, but just in case, it means a man made lure used to catch fish.
Dead-sticking is really popular right now. Basically, it is a type of fishing where the lure is lowered to a depth while holding the rod steady until the fish strikes.
Hook-setting is jerking the rod hard (get your mind out of the gutter) when a fish strikes so that the hook is firmly into the fish.
Swimbait is really cool looking. It is a lure that appears to swim when it is pulled through the water. It resembles a live bait fish decently well.
Yeah, this is only a few, but this is what I have run into so far. I'm sure this list will grow... a lot!
I have reached out to a few different anglers to see if they would do a small written interview. Cross your fingers for me. I really hope they reply!
What should I look into next???
Feel free to post suggestions on my Facebook Page, listed on the website.
Don't do Facebook, send me a message through my emails. If I said something wrong, or you want to expand on something, please let me know! This is a learning adventure for me!
