Game Warden: Fishing?
Person without fishing license: Nah, drowning worms.
Yeah I know, that was a corny dad joke but you will find quite a few on this blog.
My grandfather, a seasoned state and federal game warden, was my go-to guy for all things fishing. He made sure I had all the necessary gear and licenses, warning me that I'd be grounded until I was 40 if I got caught by the game warden without them. And trust me, I didn't want to mess with my grandpa!
No, this is not a picture of my grandfather. Unfortunately, I haven't found any photos of him in his uniform. I wish I could find some though!
Now to some of the fishing regulations in Oklahoma.
To fish legally in the great state of Oklahoma, you need to be 18 or older and have a fishing license. You can grab one at Wal-Mart or online, like I did. Make sure to carry it with you while fishing, along with some form of ID. An annual fishing license will set you back $31 if you're an Oklahoma resident, or about $25 a day if you're not.
And don't forget about the size and amount limits on the fish you can keep. Check out all the rules and regulations at https://www.wildlifedepartment.com/fishing/regs.
Ignorance is no excuse, my friend!
Oh, and speaking of rules, starting January 1st, fishing equipment like trotlines and juglines now require your customer ID number from your fishing license. No more getting away with just your name and address. And remember, those lines need to be checked every 24 hours.
Mark your calendars for Free Fishing Days in Oklahoma on June 7th and 8th in 2025. Just remember, some city permits may still be required. Happy fishing!
